How do you become an entrepreneur… A Strange Journey to Success?

In collaboration with Aleksandr Dolia, Executive Assistant

Recently, I had a monumental moment in my life’s journey—a vibrant celebration of the Cerritos Auto Square’s legacy and the incredible honor bestowed upon me in a documentary. It was a profound experience, filled with tears of joy and overwhelming gratitude. At 74, I find myself as a seasoned sage, in a time ripe for reflection, to marvel at the milestones, not just in days, months, or even years, but those monumental achievements that carve out our legacies, destined to outlive us and inspire change in the world.

Forty-eight years back, at the tender age of 26, I embarked on a pioneering role as the advanced planner for the City of Cerritos, once known as Dairy Valley. With a city of 3,500 souls and 400,000 cows as my canvas, the City Manager laid out three transformative expectations: to spearhead a comprehensive redevelopment project, to forge lasting financial resources for the city, and to envision and craft the blueprint for an automotive center that would redefine car sales. He vested in me the power and liberty to bring these visions to life. Over my five-year tenure, I not only met but exceeded those expectations, little knowing the extraordinary legacy I was crafting.

I invite you to witness this journey through the 55-minute video posted on YouTube. May it spark a light within you, showcasing the remarkable impact of what might seem like a modest endeavor—an endeavor of a collaboration of individual successes.

We all possess the potential to make an indelible impact, to leave behind a legacy that echoes through time. As entrepreneurs, we have the opportunity to change lives and chance the world we are a part of.

I hope this documentary ignites in you the drive to etch your own mark on the future as an entrepreneur. Embrace the inspiration and embark on your legacy: Watch the Documentary.

Becoming an entrepreneur is akin to embarking on a grand adventure, one where the path is not always clear, but the potential rewards are limitless. Imagine you’re standing at the edge of a dense forest representing the world of business. Your first step into this forest begins with a spark of inspiration—a unique idea or a solution to a common problem. This spark is your compass, guiding you through the uncharted territory ahead.

As you start your journey, you equip yourself with knowledge, learning from the experiences of those who have navigated these woods before. Books, courses, and mentors are your map and compass, helping you understand the terrain. You learn to embrace the unknown, accepting that setbacks are not dead ends but detours leading to new paths.

With your idea as your north star, you begin to carve a path through the forest. You craft a plan, a sketch of the route you intend to take, outlining your goals, the challenges you might face, and how you’ll overcome them. This plan is your guide, but you remain flexible, ready to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the entrepreneurial world.

As you push forward, you start shaping your idea into reality, building your product or service with the tools and skills you’ve acquired. Feedback from fellow travelers—potential customers and mentors—helps you refine your creation, making it strong enough to withstand the journey ahead.

With your offering ready, you step into a clearing—the market. Here, you introduce your creation to the world, using every method at your disposal to announce your arrival. Your message spreads across the forest, attracting those in need of what you’ve built.

But your journey doesn’t end here. With every sale, every feedback, you learn and grow. You expand your path, exploring new areas of the forest, scaling your operations, and reaching more people. Challenges continue to arise, but with each one you face, you become more adept at navigating through the forest.

Along the way, you’re not alone. You join forces with other travelers—partners, employees, investors—who share your vision and help you move forward. Together, you build something greater than what you could have achieved on your own.

Becoming an entrepreneur is about more than just starting a business; it’s about setting forth on a journey of discovery, creation, and perseverance. It’s a path that demands courage, resilience, and an unwavering belief in your vision. And while the journey is fraught with challenges, the satisfaction of forging your path and making a mark on the world makes it all worthwhile.
